The best things in life aren't things...they are friends!

"Life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made by the friends we choose." ~Tennessee Williams

I consider myself truly blessed to have such amazing friends in my life. They accept me for who I am, understand my strengths and weaknesses, and give me courage and support to become a better person. Many times, I've heard it said, "You are the average of the 5 people you choose to spend your time with." Therefore, I try and choose wisely :) I want to be around people who have positive energy and smile a lot, rather than those who complain and throw a pity party for one all the time!

Sometimes you meet someone along the way, who you just think, "this person is exactly the type of person I want to be!"...and you then know, that is someone you should spend a lot of time with! I am very fortunate to have had this happen more than once in my adult years...specifically since becoming a mommy. Most recently, an awesome mommy friend entered my life. Our boys have been in preschool for 3 years together, but it was not until recently that we started spending more time together. As the boys became better friends, so did we! She then invited me to join her early one Saturday morning for a run...and the rest, as they say, is history! Since that day, we've shared MANY early morning runs, completed several races together, and along the way a great friendship formed!

I enjoy her company so much...she is ALWAYS positive, has a SMILE on her face and NEVER complains!!! She stands up for what she believes in and is ALWAYS willing to lend a helping hand to ANYONE in need (even if she doesn't know them!!!)...prime example...at the pool last weekend, she noticed a woman getting quite sunburned...she made her way over to the woman, told her she was getting red and offered the woman some sunblock! She is the kind of friend who I know will tell me if I have food stuck in my teeth or toilet paper stuck to my shoe...and that...is a GREAT friend!!!

On her birthday, I wanted to do something special for her, so while I knew she was at Costco, I went to her house and decorated her front porch with balloons...I didn't let her know until the next day that it was me who had done it! She seemed genuinely excited and it absolutely made my day to know I helped make her day a little more special!
Yesterday, I received this card from her...and in turn she has once again (probably without even realizing it!) made my day brighter with her kind words.

ROBYN...YOU ARE AMAZING!!! THANK YOU FOR MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE...ONE SMILE AT A TIME! YOU ROCK GIRL!!!

Halloween 1.0

Many of you know about Andrew's friends/playgroup and my "mom friends", who we met at the New Mom's Group right after Andrew was born. We have been getting together weekly for almost 4 years now...hard to believe! Sometimes we even see each other several times in one week...when things are rough and we just can't be home by ourselves :) We also have an annual Halloween party. What's better than a bunch of kids running around hyped up on sugar, while their parents are enjoying pizza and beer?!?! When Carter's mom brought out the festive orange kool-aid, something these kids definitely don't see everyday, he said to his buddies, "C'mon guys. Let's get all sugared up!" That had to be one of the funniest things I've heard lately! This year we did the party in the late afternoon/evening, since the kids have school during the day. It worked out well, because the dad's were able to join us too. In 4 years, this is the first picture we have of everyone, including the dads and newest babies! Here's a pic of just the kids too...note the look of "Would you quit that cryin' Jacob!"on Andrew's face...

let's FACE it...

I must admit I never thought I'd start a blog...and I DEFINITELY never thought I'd join the world of Facebook! However, in the span of a weekend, I did both!

I've got to say, Facebook ROCKS! Thanks to Carrie Roth for getting me to sign on. I'll be calling you soon to find out what type of support groups exist for Facebook addicts...maybe FA...well, that wouldn't work because I have quickly learned there is nothing anonymous about facebook! I am just blown away by the number of people I am reconnecting with through this online social network. I'm chatting with sorority sisters, high school friends, camp peeps (including my own campers!), and so much more. I'm also finding pictures that I definitely forgot existed...and some that should've been burned years ago!

"gotta love that bikini top and those shorts...hot stuff!"

Perhaps I am just experiencing facebook virginity...but I have a feeling I'll still feel this excitement once the novelty wears off.
