Splish, Splash, I was...

taking a bath!

How cute is this...Big brother Andrew helping me give Jacob his first bath at home! Andrew was so gentle with Jacob. He would take little drops of water from his cup and drip them onto Jacob.

This was a great way for Andrew to display his role as "big brother" and he seemed to really enjoy it. Jacob, on the other hand, didn't seem too thrilled about the whole tub time experience. He wasn't miserable...ie, he didn't scream the entire time...but, he definitely let us know it was not his favorite thing to do. He was amazingly chilled out and content once he was wrapped up in the towel though...

In the evening, we had a fun visit from my Aunt Judy. Not only did she get to hold the newest member of the Banocy Bunch, she also spent some quality time with Andrew. Judy is such a special person in my life and it is always wonderful to see her interact with my kids. OMG...I think that's the first time I added an "s" onto the word kid, to make it plural!!! I have 2 boys!!! WOW, I am so incredibly blessed!

Jacob earns an "A+"

Jacob had his first visit to the pediatrician today and received an A+! Weight gain, breast feeding, and everything...he passed with flying colors. He has gained weight since leaving the hospital, which I could've told you, because of his crazy appetite. He has done extremely well with breastfeeding, which is a relief, after the trouble I had nursing Andrew. Jacob also seems to be becoming a better sleeper. He's been napping well during the day and last night I had to wake him for feedings throughout the night! I know what you're thinking, "Are you nuts! Never wake a sleeping baby!" Well, that's all well and good, if my boobs didn't feel like they were going to explode :) Can we say "Milk Mountains"?!?! We're hoping our nights ahead are just like last night...sleeping in 3+ hour chunks!

I was alone with both boys for the first time today, while Derek and Dorothy went to Home Depot. When they left the house, both Jacob and Andrew were sleeping. I woke Jacob to nurse, after he'd been sleeping for 3 hours and my "milk mountains" hit that point of no return! While I was nursing, Andrew woke up from his nap. Andrew was GREAT about being a big boy while I finished up with Jacob. He was probably just thrilled because I didn't put up a fight at all when he came down and asked to watch a movie. Aaahh...the beauty of videos and TV :) Derek and Dorothy were out for about an hour and I handled it all by myself...GO ME!!! When they came home, Derek had some quiet time with Jacob...

Oh...how could I forget...major milestone for me...I went to Target today!!! Yes, I gave birth 4 days ago and I already made my way to Target! I don't think I left the house for 4 weeks after Andrew was born!

Boy meets Girl

Nanny and Papa brought Lauren over to meet Jacob today. She was SO incredibly good with him and said such cute things! She was very aware of everything about Jacob, which truly amazed me. Some of my favorite comments from Lauren went something like...
"Oh, he's so cute" - said MANY times
"His toes are so small. His little toe is just a dot."
"Andrew, how do you like being a big brother?" - fyi...Andrew had no response to this question :)

Lauren really bonded with Jacob, and of course, had fun playing with Andrew while she was here too.

She refused to leave, when Nanny and Papa said it was time to go. She definitely did not want to leave her new baby cousin...which was SO cute! We can't wait to be together again and we look forward to when Jacob is able to meet his other two girl cousins, Sarah and Amelia.

On another note...we had a pretty sleepless night last night. Jacob would eat and then sleep for about 20 minutes (he was in the pack-n-play). This was the pattern from about 1am-5am. After the 5am feeding, we decided to have him sleep on Derek's chest, and we were able to get a nice 2 hour stretch of sleep. So, why am I up at 11:30pm blogging, when I clearly should be sleeping, you may ask??? To that question, I have no answer, other than I truly enjoy sharing these stories with you all and can't think of a better time to get it done :)

Hope you enjoyed today's post and the pics...

Our package has arrived via Standard Overnight Delivery

Ten hours after my water broke, Jacob Ellis Banocy pushed (well, actually I did most of the pushing) his way into the world. He made his grand entrance at 6:47am, on Saturday, June 14, 2008. Here is the tracking of our little bundle of joy…delivered via standard overnight delivery...

Friday, June 13 (note…Friday the 13th!)

8pm...
After enjoying a nice dinner date at Café Asia in Rosslyn, Derek signed the bill and we stood up from the table. I looked at Derek, with a grin from ear to ear and laughter arising, and said “Ummm, Derek. My water just broke. I need to go right to the bathroom.” I honestly had no idea what to do, since I had not experienced this when pregnant with Andrew. I sat down on the toilet and just laughed, as this fluid poured from my body.

Some of the thoughts running through my mind were:
“Are you kidding me! This is supposed to be our date night.”
“Ok, so they were right. I would know if my water broke. Well, either that or I’m experiencing extreme incontinence.”
“So, what do I do now.”

After realizing it would not be a good idea to sit in the bathroom of Café Asia any longer, I tried calling Derek from my cell, to tell him to get the car and meet me out front. Well, can you believe I didn’t have cell service in the bathroom! I decided to stick a wad of TP in my pants and hope for the best. Anyone reading this who has experienced the breaking of your water, you are probably laughing right now, because you know that this wad of TP was not going to do a darn thing! I soon found that out :)

We made our way to the car, laughing, as my pants continued to become soaked and this lovely fluid made its way down my legs. Luck would have it, that I had a towel in the car...how handy! We called the doc, headed home to get our hospital bag and then headed to the hospital.

9pm...and beyond...

We arrived at the hospital and made our way through registration, to Labor and Delivery. I was checked and was only 2 cm dialated. After several hours, I still was not dialating enough, so I was started on pitocin, to help increase contractions and dialate more. How ironic...here I'd been taking meds to stop contractions and pre-term labor...and now, my water breaks and I NEED something to get the contractions going!!! Can we say stubborn baby?!?! I'll spare you the details of the next several hours, but let's just say, it was a LONG night!

Saturday, June 14th

6:30am...
My contractions became very strong and the epidural just wasn't doing it's job anymore. I also felt that if I moved, the baby would literally fall out of me. I let the nurse know and she paged the doc.

6:40am...the final push...
After hours of laboring, I was now 10cm dialated and the baby was low and ready. It only took 3 series of 3 pushes each and Jacob was here! He weighed in at 8lbs. 4 oz. and measured 20 3/4 inches in length. Derek and I were both a bit shocked to hear the words "It's a boy!", since we were both convinced this was going to be a girl. After recovering from the shock (all of about 2 seconds) we decided on the name of our newest addition, Jacob Ellis Banocy.

Jacob - just a name we both like
Ellis - in memory and honor of Derek's grandma, Elsie

It's now Monday night and we are home from the hospital. Andrew is slowly adjusting to being a big brother. Funny note - he said he doesn't like the name we chose, and he has decided to nickname his little brother, JJ.

I should really be sleeping right now, since Jacob is doing just that. I know it is only a matter of time before my presence will be requested from him :)

I will try to keep up to date on the postings, but for now, enjoy the pics...
