Back to School...An experiment in saving money
One of my FAVORITE things growing up was BACK TO SCHOOL SHOPPING...and I was SO excited to pass this excitement on to Andrew as he will be entering Kindergarten in just a few weeks! At the Open House a few months ago, we were given the option to pre-order the supply kit for $45. To me, that seemed crazy...not only did I think I could pay WAY LESS for school supplies, but I also thought it was taking the FUN out of shopping for that fresh new notebook...AHHHH! So...I made it my little experiment to see just how much I would spend on Andrew's school supplies...and whether or not I would still say that B2S shopping is fun, after all the bargain hunting.
I just completed the shopping today and here it is...A GRAND TOTAL OF $20.12!!!!
· 2 Boxes Crayola crayons (24 pack) $.25 each = $.50
· 18 Small Elmer’s glue sticks $.25/2 = $2.25
· 1 Pair of Fiskars scissors – Blunt Tip $1.50
· 1 Plain Red Pocket Folders – Plastic with Brads $.75
· 1 Composition book (black & white marbled) for word study $.25
· 2 Bottles Elmer’s liquid glue – 4oz. $.25 each = $.50
· 4 Pack of Expo Dry Erase Markers (Thick) FREE USING CVS REWARDS
· 1 Crayola Watercolors paint set (8 colors with brush) $1.97
· 1 Three ring zippered pencil pouch (clear plastic)
· 1 Box of tissues (name brand preferred)
· 1 Container of Hand Sanitizer Gel
· 1 Box baby wipes (unscented)
· 1 Box gallon size slide-lock storage bags $2
· 1 Box quart size slide-lock storage bags $2
· 1 Beach towel or blanket for quiet time
· 1 Full-sized, 2-strap backpack (no wheels) $6 - we weren't even going to buy a new one, but when I saw this one on clearance, I couldn't resist!
1 Box Crayola Washable Classic Color Markers (Thick) $2
I will admit that I definitely could've found a few things even cheaper, but as the weeks went by, I just wanted to get it done! I am proud to say that not only did I SAVE MONEY, but it was FUN!!!
Hope you all enjoy your adventures in B2S shopping....be they frugal or not!

Shopwiki
If you are one who tends to do a lot of your shopping online, you should check out Shopwiki. It is like a google search engine dedicated to online shopping...I mean how much easier can shopping get?!?! They search the internet for the best deals, so all you need to do is type in what you're looking for and bam...there it is! You can search by category, brand, and for those of us shopping with a budget in mind, you can even search within a specific price range.
The site seems to be quite organized, as it is broken down into different categories. Through Shopwiki, you can find many items for your little one, such as diapers, car seats, clothes and so much more. I tried out the site, by searching for a game Andrew had played at a friend's house. I simply entered the name of the game and it returned multiple options, which I could then sort by price.
Next time you head online to fill your cart, be sure to check out Shopwiki. I'm sure I'll be using it for holiday shopping this year!

in the bank
my sister-in-law, who is AWESOME at finding bargains and saving money, introduced me to this site yesterday. i have tried numerous coupon websites and this one is by far the best! it tells you what the deals are and exactly how to get them. so...last night i familiarized myself with the site and this morning while derek and andrew were at bball i started my coupon hunt. the deals at cvs are great, but i didn't get there today. i went to target and giant and here are some of the best deals i scored today...
coffeemate coffee creamer - retails at target $1.67 - i used a $1.50 manuf. coupon - paid only 17cents!
yoplait yogurt (8) - retails at for $4.72 (59cents each) - i used $1 off manuf. coupon PLUS $1 off target coupon - paid only $2.72 (that's ONLY 34cents each)!
del monte can corn - on sale at giant for $1 - i used 75cent manuf. coupon, which was DOUBLED to $1.50 - paid ZERO and EARNED 50 cents on my purchase!
i'll be sure to keep you posted on future deals i score! i am very excited (if you can't tell) and got such a high after saving this money today, that i think i've found a new hobby...coupon hunting :) thanks jodi!!!
