junk it 2010...not forgotten!

one would think that being stuck in the house for over a week, i would have gotten A LOT done around here. well...not so much i tell ya! i did however face the dejunktification process in andrew's room. while i made a lot of head way, i really can not say that i completed this task. i still need to go through his clothes, sort out what no longer fits him, vacuum seal it up in those awesome bags and then get it into storage bins. i did manage to go through the pile of "things to hang" on andrew's walls (and they're ALL hung!), sort through his 5 book bins (moved several books into j's room), and reorganized his bookshelves.

while i'm tempted to move onto another room and ignore the "too small" clothes in his room, i'm going to stick with it and try to get it done over the next week. if i don't do it now, i'm afraid the clothes will be in there until jacob's big enough to wear them. hey...now maybe that's not such a bad idea?!?! nah...no procrastination!!!

junk it 2010...on to andrew's room

the play area has been dejunktified...and stays clean pretty much between the hours of 9pm-9am...or at least according to derek!

after a wonderful trip to FLORIDA, i am a few days behind on the junk it 2010 tour. i must say though, after seeing my parents' new digs, i am in the mood to clean baby! their house is like a museum...it is SO beautiful....at least until all 8 of us arrive over spring break! watch out nanny & papa...better hide all the fragile stuff!!!

this week, junk it 2010 moves upstairs to andrew's room. while i haven't completed all rooms on the first level (still need to do dining room & family room), i am so motivated to get into A's room. he must have 1000 books in his room, numerous toys to boot, and clothes that are way too small taking up space in his drawers.

in fact, i think i'll head up there now. oh, wait...he's sleeping...guess it'll have to wait! for now, i'm going to enjoy a glass of cab sav and spend some time with my hubby!

i'll keep you posted...on the room that is!

junk it 2010...the playroom

after a week in the kitchen, junk it 2010 has spent the week in the playroom...if that's what you can even call it. for those of you who haven't been to our house, what would be the eat in dining area or sitting room, serves as our playroom. the room contains 3 storage areas...a toy box, a dresser unit and a 9 hole storage cube. these storage spaces are FILLED with train tracks, lincoln logs, puzzles, games, balls, indoor sports equipment, stuffed animals, books, and MANY, MANY, MANY vehicles!!! while we try to keep the area organized (a bucket for each "type" of toy), there just isn't enough space to contain it all. toys end up underneath the dresser, on top of the storage units, and tucked away behind the toy box...not to mention, ALL OVER THE FLOOR! so...my goal for the room was to weed out the toys that are no longer being used (such as baby toys, broken toys, ripped books, etc) and have EVERYTHING put away...ALL TOYS MUST BE OUT OF SIGHT UNLESS BEING PLAYED WITH!

while i forgot to take a "before" picture, i PROMISE you, IT WAS BAD! over the course of this week, i managed to load up 3 large bags, a diaper box and a toy box with items to be donated.

when i explained to andrew what i was doing, he questioned which toys i was putting in "the bags!" i explained to him that it would only be toys they no longer play with or toys that they have more than one of. he said "oh, you mean like the camper legos? we have 2 of that set. i think we should give that to someone who doesn't have toys." i was so very proud of him...however, i don't foresee the camper legos making it into "the bag", seeing as one set belongs to andrew and the 2nd set is derek's...i don't think either of them will be parting with them anytime soon. andrew did help me go through the toys and books, for which i was very proud of him!

as you can see, some progress has been made, but even with ALL of the toys i eliminated from the playroom, there is still work to be done. there are STILL toys on top of the storage bins, under the dresser AND behind the toy box. i figured it would take longer than one week to dejunk this room, so i'm not disappointed. i will continue to work on the playroom for another week.

junk it 2010...the kitchen

as you know from reading my earlier post, the kitchen portion of junk it 2010 is to be completed tomorrow. i am happy to report that this should be achieved! the kitchen is pretty much

de-junktified and i only have a few minor areas remaining to be organized. i gave away many items on freecycle and i am still holding out for a few items that will hopefully make us some money on craigslist. i am feeling very good about all that i have accomplished this week...did i mention that i completed ANOTHER 4+ mile run today!!! GO ME!!! i'm thinking the next room on my list should be the play room...that one might take more than a week. i am SO excited to declutter that room...say bye-bye to your toys, boys!!! stay tuned and i'll let you know what assignment i choose!

iPhone...just do it

It would be an understatement to say that I love my iPhone (sad, I know!). Everyday, I must tell Derek at least 5 ways my iPhone came in handy that day...for example...

* using the GPS
* checking email while I'm out, to see if someone from Craig's List emailed me back about picking up our new stroller :)
* taking pics of the kids WHENEVER and WHEREVER I want
* checking my calendar to make sure Derek isn't in a meeting before calling him at work
* we don't even have to go to Cracker Barrel to play PegJump!
While all of these things are AWESOME, I have had one complaint since buying the phone. As you know, I'm a list maker. Typically, I rely on good ol' pen and paper for this, but have tried to transition to the "notes" application on the iPhone. It was ok, but not great. It allowed me to type a list, but not to put dates, priorities, etc on my tasks...it was just a list.

Last night, my iPhone love came full circle, when I found an application called "my To-Dos." I quickly downloaded it and began my list of just that...To Do's. So, here's why this app is so super cool...
1 - I can date my tasks
2 - I can prioritize my tasks (high, medium, low)
3 - I can categorize my tasks (personal, work, volunteer)
4 - I can EMAIL a task right from my list to anyone!
5 - IT'S FREE TO DOWNLOAD!!!
#4 will be quite handy when one of my To-Dos becomes a Honey-Do!

So for those of you who have an iPhone, I highly recommend adding this app. For those of you who still haven't been convinced to buy an iPhone, keep reading my blog...I'm sure to convince you one of these days! Afterall, it's a phone, it's an iPod, it's a camera, it's GPS, it's the internet, it's a calendar, it tells me the weather, it has games...and now...it carries a simple organized list of my to-do's!

Oh yeah...apparently 3 year olds think it's super cool too! Just wait until he finds out I can download episodes of Sesame Street!
